Your safety comes first and in cases where you are meant to have a visit, these will now be taking place remotely.

Examples of how this can be done will be using telecommunications applications such as the ones below and you can choose with your Trainer what works better for you:

  • Microsoft Teams
  • Skype
  • Zoom
  • Facetime
  • WhatsApp

Microsoft Teams:

Microsoft Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, file storage and application integration.

Your Trainer will just create an outlook meeting as usual, but with a ‘Teams Meeting’ button included.

Computer – If you are using a computer then you will get the link within the email, which will open in a web page in which you can then join the chat.

Mobile – If you are using your mobile and don’t have teams installed, the email will direct you to the App Store to download for free and you can use this as a guest (no sign in required).

Obviously, if you have Teams on either device, then it will automatically open when you click the link in the meeting request.

Skype and Zoom:

Skype and Zoom are telecommunications applications that specialise in providing video chat and voice calls between computers, tablets, mobile devices, etc.

Your Trainer will create an outlook meeting as usual but with a free unique link that they will share with you for your Skype/Zoom meeting. With a Skype/Zoom call your Trainer has the option to record and save your guided discussions and share your screen to review work. You will need an internet connection, or you can use your 3g/4g through your mobile service.

If you do not have a camera or microphone on your computer, you can talk over the phone with your Trainer and used Zoom/Skype to share screens. So, an observation can be conducted with the share screen facility and then a guided discussion over the phone which the Trainer will record using their laptop recorder. So your visit will be the same as usual and your Trainer can send some guidelines across about how to use Skype and Zoom before your remote visit if you ask them.

If you did want to download the app, more advice for this is here:

If you did want to download Zoom before a meeting, you can do here:

FaceTime or WhatsApp can also be used if you do not want to use the other services and your Trainer can FaceTime or WhatsApp call you, so they can still see you face to face and conduct your visit and voice record on their laptop if they do need to do a guided discussion.
